The Fitness Blog
My online fitness journal, sharing my thoughts and experienceWHAT IS THE BEST INTENSITY FOR EXERCISE? HIIT VS LISS, AEROBIC VS ANAEROBIC EXERCISE
I spend most of my working days in the gym. No surprise there I guess, but looking back, I must have spent most of my adult life in one gym or another. I’ve been a personal trainer for over 12 years now and I’ve been specialising in the online side of training for the last 5.
IMPORTANCE OF HITTING CALORIES
There will come a time when training hard isn’t enough. It isn’t the sole solution to your fitness problems. You will often here that results are 80% nutrition and 20% training. While this isn’t evidence backed it isn’t far from the truth. In order to maximise your sessions you need to seriously consider your nutrition.
TRAINING INTENSITY
One of the most common reasons I hear from those who don’t manage to stick to a training plan is that it’s too much of a solitary experience. I get that. I understand it. It is true that training can be a very singular activity. It’s just you against yourself, sometimes fighting against your own willpower, determination or individual motivators, even when you’re surrounded by other people.
10 WAYS TO STICK TO YOUR TRAINING
Getting or even staying fit is hard, there’s no doubt about it. It’s that difficulty that makes it all worthwhile. Achieving your own fitness battle is as much a physical tussle, as it is a mental one. We live and die by our beliefs. If you believe you can do it, you’re right. If you believe you can’t, you’re also right. Which would you rather be?
DO PUSH-UPS BUILD YOUR ARMS?
I have been a personal trainer for over a decade and worked with some of the most famous actors modern-day Hollywood has to offer. As you would expect, a lot of them become best known due to their incredible physical appearance and presence on screen and, more often than not, your eyes will be drawn to their blockbuster arms.
WHY ARE MY MUSCLES NOT GROWING? THE TRAINING EFFECT.
Increasing your muscle size is known as hypertrophy. This basically means the increase in skeletal muscle through the increase in the size of its component cells. There are two factors that help your muscles to grow; sarcoplasmic hypertrophy is all about the glycogen storage within muscles and myofibrillar hypertrophy which is concerned with increased myofibril size.
10 PROTEIN MYTHS BUSTED!
Hopefully your new year resolutions are still intact and going strong as we start 2017. I don’t want to impact on those at all, but I am ready to bust a few other myths.
There’s a lot of talk at the moment about protein. As with anything when the internet is involved, there’s a lot of information and misinformation out there. I want to help you clear through the clutter and understand the facts about protein and why it’s important. Let’s look at the top ten myths around protein and hopefully debunk some of them!
A PHASE APPROACH TO TRAINING
If your goal is improving aesthetics, then you need to look at training through phases. All your gym heros will do it (they may not show it however) and you should too.
